Family Therapy

Strengthen and heal relationships

Family relationships can be a beautiful tapestry woven with joy, love, and shared experiences, but they can also face significant challenges during times of tragedy, transition, or conflict. When these hurdles arise, our focus shifts to the family unit, which becomes central to the healing process.

Below, outlined are services for Emotion-Focused Family Therapy and Parent Coaching Therapy.

“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible — the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family.”

Understanding Family Dynamics

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) provides a holistic approach to healing and growth within families. Here are some key benefits of EFFT:

  1. Emotional Resilience: EFFT enhances emotional resilience, enabling family members to acknowledge and address their emotions. This adaptability allows families to navigate challenges with greater strength.
  2. Improved Communication: One of the core goals of EFFT is to enhance communication patterns. By encouraging open dialogue and active listening, family members can express their emotions and needs more effectively, fostering deeper connections.
  3. Conflict Resolution: EFFT equips families with practical strategies for resolving conflicts constructively. By learning to manage disagreements and engage in difficult conversations, families can cultivate harmony.
  4. Healing Trauma: EFFT recognizes the impact of past trauma on family dynamics, providing a safe space for healing. Through empathetic exploration, families can address old wounds and move forward together.
  5. Strengthening Bonds: By fostering emotional connection and empathy, EFFT reinforces the bonds between family members. Shared experiences and mutual support help build trust and intimacy.
  6. Empowerment: EFFT empowers families to take an active role in their healing journey. With tools for emotional regulation and problem-solving, families gain self-awareness and agency in managing their relationships.
  7. Long-term Growth: The skills acquired during EFFT sessions promote lasting changes in family dynamics. By nurturing a culture of emotional openness and support, families can continue to thrive even after therapy has concluded.

Parent Coaching

Navigating the complexities of parenting can be challenging, especially when conflicts arise. I recognize that disagreements between parents and children are common, which is why I offer Parent Coaching Therapy to foster effective communication and strengthen these vital relationships.

Through the framework of EFFT, I empower caregivers to nurture their children’s emotional growth while enhancing their own confidence. In my sessions, I provide essential tools to help parents navigate challenges related to peer relationships, academic pressures, anxiety, depression, family dynamics, and their own mental health.

Session Structure:

  • Introductory Session: 50 minutes for initial orientation.
  • Follow-Up Sessions: 75 minutes each for deeper exploration and progress.

Key elements of my parent coaching sessions include:

  • Attending to a child’s emotional needs in a positive and developmentally appropriate manner
  • Cultivating emotional awareness and expression in children
  • Validating children’s feelings
  • Responsively addressing children’s emotions
  • Equipping children with problem-solving skills

EFFT typically spans two to four sessions, with intervals between sessions tailored to the unique needs of each family.

My training includes:

  • EFFT Core Clinician Training led by Dr. Adele Lafrance and Dr. Joanne Dolhanty
  • Techniques for Teaching Emotion Coaching to Caregivers
  • Strategies for Managing Challenging Co-parenting Dynamics
